chocolatada y cabalgata!!

mmmmm... we went to Jenny's house with Rut, Jorge, their kids our kids and a huge big gang for the traditional Xocolatada de Reis!

Jenny lives upstairs from Ruth and Jorge and downstairs from Beatriz and Gala. The whole building was a buzz of kids and excitement!

Lorcan hanging out with Jorge

Jan (with ball, as always!) with his daddy Nacho

Jorge, the grinning chef

Rita and Nico taking a break from all that chocolate :)

Liam having a musical interlude... (is it just me or does he look incredibly 'grown up' here? aaah!)
Malachy (in his 'Innocent until proven guilty' sweatshirt) was happy to see his old crèche buddy, Ray. They were shy with each other at first but were soon off playing together...

stopping for some more hot chocolate, of course :)

Jan, Malachy and Lorcan... the littlest guys at the party, I think :)

So with the parade quickly approaching, we hit the streets. Heading just a few steps up the street to Via Laietana, we took up our usual spot to view the Cabalgata de Reyes (when the 3 magi -or wise kings- parade through the streets on the eve of Little Christmas bringing gifts for the boys and girls... that's what they say, anyway!)... with the rest of the multitudes! Nico, Nacho, Jaime and Lorcan were all set...

Davide and Gala were in on the excitement too...

As was Laia and her little pearls: Martina...

... and Violeta (who just couldn't contain her excitement)!

Then there was Aina...

... and her little brother Arnau.

Laia sent me this great collage. Check it out! Three years of Cabalgatas... and many more to come :)

The floats started coming..
The crowd cheers on the kings and their followers and in return they throw sweeties into the audience! (hard boiled sweets, mind you. More than one bump on the head and sore eye ends up at the red cross station every year, I believe!).

Malachy had a little meltdown just when it all started (nerves mixed with chocolate, not good) so he and I disappeared for a while to calm him down. He eventually cheered up and enjoyed the parade. So did I!

and so did the lovely Beatriz!

... and Carme and Liam (on top of a ladder here!)

And Clara and Leo... ... and Rita (on somebody's shoulders!)

And that was the end of that. Till next year!

:)
