Out of action...

I know, I know... the JamRobbers have been out of action for too long! 15 days! Well, if anything, at least that proves that I'm not as helpless a "blogger addict" as some may have thought! The withdrawal symptoms were bad, but I've survived...!

A sequence of both fortunate and unfortunate events has kept us away from our JamRobBlog for all this time but we'll soon be back to our usual pace!

At the time of our last entry, Liam was slowly recovering from a dreadful dose of the chicken pox. The marks have almost entirely cleared up now and his lovely smooth skin is almost back to its lily-white self!

But....

Now Malachy's got it!!! AAAaaaah!

Exactly a fortnight after Liam came down with it, Malachy's little body realised that the incubation period was up and he came out in swarms of chicken pox too!!! Although he seems to have slightly less spots that Liam had (his body is about 50% smaller after all!!), he's been finding it very uncomfortable and annoying. The poor pet has been going stir crazy though... he loves the outdoors and the park and the paddling pool and has been deprived of all of that for a week now. Aw. Thankfully, the itchiness seems to be subsiding now so we're beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Everyone tells me this chicken pox saga has been a blessing in disguise -they all say it's better to get it over with now (especially as they're boys).

It wasn’t just the chicken pox that knocked our usual routines out of synch though: in between Liam’s dose and Malachy’s we had a few days of respite. Luckily enough we couldn’t have timed it better in fact… our friend Marian from Bilbao came to stay next door in our old flat with her three kids (Josu (7.5), Maialen (5.5) and Alex (3.5)). They were here for a week and we managed to pack it full of activities and excursions: the Zoo, the Aquarium, the CosmoCaixa Science Museum, the Geology Museum, the Natural Science Museum, Boating on the lake, Partying at home, Shopping… and Marian and I even managed to fit in a ladies night out (entailing a lovely seafood supper at El Mundial and a nice cocktail in El Born)!!

But that’s not all… in these last few days we’ve also managed to have our house and patio turned upside down! Our Georgian carpenter finally came back to finish our patio decking and the wooden staircase in our bedroom! Himself and Jaime and Constantine (a Russian handyman we hired) also ripped out the old stairs from the patio and knocked a hole in the office wall for a new window!

But… the MAIN reason I haven’t posted any blog entries for 15 days is that our computer DIED!!! AGAIN!!! The whole hard disc just broke… burnt out… adios… nothing salvageable at all!!! As usual Jaime claims it must have been some rampant virus that got in through the internet (hint hint, Vanessa’s fault) whereas I am adamant that it’s Jaime’s video editing card and program Pinnacle Pro (or whatever it’s called). Jaime was in the midst of editing the annual class mini-movies for the Portal Nou crèche (“Anem al Portal Nou? 2004-2005”) when the whole thing went haywire and wouldn’t even let us enter Windows. As usual, we took it to Sebas, our trusty PC doctor and, just like this time last year when Jaime was (ironically enough) editing Un Dia en L’Escola Bressol Portal Nou 2003-2004, it was kaput! We had to get a whole new hard drive and the worst thing of all is that we lost almost all the work we had been doing on the crèche videos.

Well, to cut a long story short, we got a new hard drive and have been slowly reinstalling the programs we usually use. We re-edited the crèche stuff and re-rendered it and finally finished burning all the copies this morning (after staying up nearly all night last night waiting for the last movie to render!!!). I still have to download Hello! and start posting the backlog of pix I’ve got from these last few days and also set up the webcam and messenger so that we can link up with Sarah, Séan, Hiromi, Carmielia and Shay in Dublin soon (hi guys!).

But one thing is clear… I’m getting myself a laptop! A nice brand new powerful, reliable, laptop that is NEVER going to be used for video editing EVER!!!

Malachy spent most of the party here... in dreamland somewhere!

Liam, no longer in quarentine but still off school, was allowed out of his housebound-chicken-pox-prison to briefly attend the party. Thrilled and somewhat shocked to be out, he had a great time! Little does he know, he still has another few days entrapment ahead of him... we have to make sure those sores clear up properly before letting him out into the July sun.

Pim, the queen of improvisation!

Pam... clown and costume designer!

Pum!..... dum dee dum dee dum...

Portal Nou parties are always so colourful!
