First stop: Etayo
Sleepy heads in the hire car and changing landscapes along the way...
We found our way to Etayo, the tiny little town we were staying in, and the lovely "Casa Esparza" rural hotel that Marije had recommended to us.
The lady running the place kept a beautiful garden with a little waterfall and lots of blooming hydrangeas.
We had a look around there for a while...
... and around the tiny village of Etayo.
We also went to nearby Murieta, to freshen up and have a swim at the pool.
Next stop: Estella
Estella-Lizarra is a beautiful historical town, located on the "Camino de Santiago" (Way of St. James Pilgrims' Walk). So we had an enjoyable stroll around.
And lunch (plus Fantasmikos, of course) at a terraza beside the town square.
Views of Estella... This is the "Plaza de los Reyes de Navarra".
This reminded me of the Spanish steps in Rome ;)
The River Ega flowing through Estella.
These typical cobbled streets are full of hostels for the pilgrims to stay in. All the restaurants offer special "pilgrim" menus to replenish the walkers and cyclists doing the "Camino".
Anyone looking for property in Navarra?!
Next stop: Irache
This is the Monasterio de Irache, another stop on the Pilgrims' Walk.
The courtyard inside is magical.
And the monastery itself so well restored.
And then we visited the "Fountain of Wine" (!), a place where the pilgrims are hospitably offered a drink of wine or water from the Bodegas Irache fountain.
Next stop La Rioja.... Stay tuned!
