Killarney National Park

Sheep and lambs on the road from Kenmare to Killarney! We decided to visit Killarney National Park on Sunday (8 April). It was a beautiful clear day...

Boys belted up

I love the old stone walls along these country roads :)

The lakes of Killarney

Pine forests in the distance -and a sheep (fancy that?) on the road!

Liam looking like he has just conquered the wild west!!!

The road into Killarney National Park

Yay!! We're here :)

This is Muckross House which lies withint he boundaries of Killarney National Park.

The grounds of Muckross House are mature and beautiful... like this tree.

Lorcan felt right at home there ;)

Especially when it came to picnic time :)

Muckross Lake

Muckross House (viewed from the lake). The little dot on the right hand side (in front of the tree) is Malachy who decided to have a tantrum (I don't even remember why now!!!) and stood there whining and then crying and then balling for quite a loooong time...

a zoom in on a weepy tantrum moment... awwww

But, hey, a tantrum is just a tantrum and it never lasts *that* long...
Soon enough, Malachy was back to his cheerful self :)

Things to do in the grounds of Muckross castle include taking a ride on a horse and cart...

And visiting the Traditional Farms... complete with "bean an tí" (lady of the house) in each one, explaining how farms and farmhouses were run in Ireland before the introduction of electrcity...

This friendly 'bean-an-tí' had just made delicious soda bread on the open fire. We got to taste it topped with homemade butter and jam! Note the look of delight on Liam's face as he goes back for more!

Pretty painted thatched cottages...

...and an old orange cart!

Unfortunately our camera battery died pretty early that day so there's no coverage of the other farms, the farmer planting potatoes, the blacksmith at work and the egg hunt we had in the playground, but suffice to say the memories are clear and the craic was mighty :)
