Cahir

After a lovely week at this house in Kenmare Holiday Village, we packed everything back into the car and bade Kerry a fond farewell.

In true castle-hunting spirit, just as we had planned our trip down to stop at the Rock of Cashel, we made sure we could fit a castle in on the way back up too: Cahir Castle in Tipperary.

Another beatiful sunny day and one very happy Malachy... the biggest castle fan in the family :)

Public loo indications on a street corner in Cahir. Hmmm ??!... if I go that way and you go that way... um, looks like we'll ending up meeting in the middle ;)

Strolling up to Cahir town square

Refreshments in the square

Hi! Can you see mummy?

The best travelling baby! Once he's fed, he's fine! Oh, and he likes to be sung to as well. Preferrably by the entire family. At the top of their lungs :)

We're not big meat eaters in our family. We much prefer fish and seafood.

... but we came across Moloney's butcher's in Cahir town and this notice in the window drew our attention...

So in we went and bought some steaks and a tongue (yes, a tongue!). The butcher kindly held onto our purchases until after we'd been to see the castle. The steaks were tender and tasty and the tongue (which we immediately froze) was cooked weeks later by Jaime's mum! Don't ask for the recipe (!), all I know is she slow cooked it and then sliced it while hot and created a delicous sauce that she thickened from the juices and simmered and served as a main course. The kids devoured it and even I (who was reluctant to even taste it) was raving about its tender yumminess.

The moat!

The classic castle entrance!

Inside the castle walls...

Lazing brothers on the grass after our picnic.

Lazing mummy...

Lazing daddy.

King Malachy on his throne (practising his cheesy grin!)

The River Suir running through Cahir town

Inside the castle towers.

And all the way down the winding stairs...

Well, that was the end of our holiday this Easter '07! We hope you enjoyed travelling with us to Cork and Kerry.
