goodbye hospital... hello world!

ready to go home...!

taking the bouquets home...

taking it easy at the hospital...

Laia came to visit Lorcan too!

now I'm "the middle child" (el mediano)...!

eldest and youngest

sweet and tender brotherly love

Carol and Lorcan

And this is Carol! The lady whose hands pulled Lorcan out into the outside world!

...

sleeping it off, as usual...

thoughtful Lorcan...

As you can see here, Lorcan was born with a cleft lip. Fortunately, the malformation is very minor and there is no internal damage to his mouth, nose or palate. He's been tested for any associated malformations and, thankfully, he got the all clear. At some time in his first 6 months, Lorcan will be having a small plastic surgery operation to correct the cleft in his lip. We perish the thought of operating on our tiny little baby so soon but, at the same time, we're just so thankful that he's well and healthy in every other way.... our lovely little Lorcan.

Proud as punch...

Daddy's new boy!

Grandchild number 5 gets a cuddle from his Granny!

Loving Lorcan...

But their new baby brother is by FAR the BEST GIFT of all!

They both really liked their pressies!

A book all about pirates for Liam (... now, just how did Lorcan know about Liam's big passion for pirates, I wonder?!!) and a book about funny faces for Malachy!

Lorcan came with presents for his brothers! Lucky things! Here they are unwrapping them on our hospital room sofa...

Tis tiring work being born...

Within the hour Lorcan was surrounded!!! Once we left the makeshift delivery room, Jaime went to pick up Liam, Malachy and Granny and they all welcomed him into the world in style!

Our brand new bundle of joy!!!

Born hungry ...

Tired but thrilled!...

Hello world...!

Lorcan: 4 kilos 80 grams; 52 cm! Born 16:20 on 25.04.06

And here we are mid-contraction... Almost there! In the end I held on with my waters intact till almost 4pm! The delivery rooms were all full and so I ended up delivering in the exploration room! Carol, the obstetrician that delivered Malachy appeared and saw us. She wasn't even on duty but decided to quickly jump into her sterile greens and assist our birth!! The midwife agreed and we were off! As soon as I sat up on the examining chair, lay back, got my legs into the stirrups and pushed a little, my waters broke in a dramatic deluge!!! Three pushes later and: Lorcan was born!!!

On Tuesday April 25th I went into labour at about six o'clock in the morning! We hung out at home during dilation until around 1pm and then headed to the hospital. I was already almost 9 cm dilated when we got there (!) but my waters still hadn't broken!! Here I am, between contractions, after a session of fetal monitoring -about to get onto the birth ball for some soft bouncing...

One of Liam's spontaneous snaps of me!

Liam also took part in a painting workshop inside the wigwam!

Uma had her face painted too but, like Liam, as soon as the clay dried and tightened on her skin, she' wanted it off!

The pice de resistance!

Afterwards, Liam's masterpiece was left to dry with the others...

The sheer concentration on his face!

Liam took part in the pottery workshop and made his own clay bowl...

And once again, Liam had his face painted!

making water boil using solar energy...

Inside a Cambodian tent...

These native American indians sang, danced and described their chants and rituals to us all

Malachy the messer...

Rita fell and grazed her knee.... ouuuchhhh!

Jan is growing so fast!!!!

Lola, less her two front teeth!

We met Rita, Lola, Nico, Jan, Mara and Jorge at the fair too!

To mark Earth Day, 22 April, there was an "Earth Fair" in town by the Arc de Triomf. As I was about to pop the baby any minute and the fair was just a safe few moments across the road, we spent most of our weekend enjoying the music and workshops there with Liam and Malachy...!
