Guess who just loves walking barefoot in the sand?!

Rita, a true daredevil.

Waves lapping on the shore around him...

Making a shore-side sand crocodile... soon to be swept away by a freak wave and a not-so-freak Rita...!

More beach bums: Mariona and Liam

Refreshing these sisters...

La Ritiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Getting into the water... when we arrived at the beach Liam was adamant that the water was completely out of bounds. According to him sand and sand-castles were the only decent reasons for going to the beach and anyone who ventured into the water was mad!!! As you can see, it didn't take long for Rita and Lola's example to entice him towards the shore!

Jorge and me enjoying the view. Malachy enjoying a mid-afternoon snack!

Beach bums: Lola, Rita and Liam

At the beach yesterday... the makings of a true Robinson beach monster, what do you reckon, Graham? Pity there was no seaweed!

Pau Claris, the secondary school alongside Pere Vila. Both are located on Passeig Lluis Companys just opposite the Arc de Triomf and beside Barcelona's old courthouse.

Pere Vila, from another angle. All the classrooms are large with big windows and lots of light. They have a big assembly hall (much like the ones at my old schools in Dun Laoghaire) with a stage and sports equipment. There are two playgrounds, one of which has a vegetable garden planted and tended by the kids!

Liam's new school: CEIP Pere Vila

This is Liam's new school. Yes! He's finally been assigned a place! He'll be starting preschool there next September. It's just across the way by the Arc de Trionf. Less than 5 minutes walk from our house (at adult pace!). Although we're not ecstatically jumping for joy because this school was only 5th on our list of preferences (there were no places left at the other four after the draw), we are still very happy indeed as it's a good school, it's close to home and lots of Liam's friends are going there too!

Some more of Malachy's lady friends! Left to right: Naia and her mum Nekane, Martina and her mum Laia, Ada and her mum Circe. I robbed these last three pix off Circe's website (hope you don't charge royalties!!!)

Ada is one of the little friends Malachy made at the Casc Antic CAP baby group... her mum Circe and dad Fer are lovely folk... friends of Laia's (Martina and Violeta's mum). Some of us baby group gang will be getting together next Tuesday for lunch at our house. Silvia (Arnau and Aina's mum) is going back to work on Wednesday after a long stretch of leave so it's a kind of farewell for her and a nice chance for us to show the girls the new flat and let the kids play around together!

This is Ada!

Remember Irene? We posted a very early pic of her not so long ago. Well, she's still only very tiny... but extremely alert! Gorgeous, isn't she?! (Sergio... I'm still waiting for one of Max though!!!!)

Presenting: my new bike!!! Well it will be soon! I just bought it on e-bay this morning and now I'm impatiently waiting for it to arrive (probably won't get here till next week). Can't wait to be back on two wheels again! My old crock conked out over a month ago and I've been on the metro to work since then, and hate it! Not long now till I'll be zipping along the bike lane on this, my new "Beachcruiser"!

Saoirse and Granddad on Dun Laoghaire pier last Sunday... home alone whilst Liam, Malachy and me held Granny hostage over here!

Saoirse sitting on Dun Laoghaire pier. Howth in the background. One of my favourite places in all the world.

playing (and dribbling) in my pyjamas!

We even went to the beach for a while when Granny was here... got our first taste of sand this summer.... in your hair, in between your toes, in the kids' ears, in the baby's nappy....!

playground laughter

Ages of endless fun... stick a ball in the bucket and use the pulley... ooops, try and grab it!!!

Malachy smiling for his Granny

Liam in the park last weekend when Granny was here

Liam watched all of this in silent awe!

Liam called this guy "the big strong man"! Here he's doing another Basque rural sport: bale-throwing!

and the winner is... this guy!

This guy here is one of Euskadi's champion Aizkolaris. On this particular occassion he took over fifty swings of the axe to chop the log in half (his record stands at thirty-something) and lost to his component (the guy in the following photo) because he was unlucky enough to come up against a knot in the wood.

A log about to be chopped in half in less than 40 swings of that axe!

This weekend was the Basque tourist fair in Barcelona... we've seen exhibitions of traditional Basque sports, concerts, kids entertainment,... and tried out some tasty titbits of cheese, txakolí and all things yummy from Euskadi!

The kind of thing the kids get up to when we're trying to drag them out of Portal Nou.... Nora, Uma and Liam... three of a kind!

Liam &... some of the gang on a Friday afternoon after school... doing nothing in particular

Sing us one of your songs, Nora... go on....!

.... I'm a brat!

Qué gamberra!!!!

Nora in a fit of giggles after school yesterday!

Their dad, our friend... and Malachy's godfather(!!!), Jorge!

Little Rita

Lovely Lola

Following no particular trail.... Zigor's Ford Fiesta!
